I haven’t blogged for quite a while for two reasons: firstly, I seem to have lost some of the initial enthusiasm that accompanied my first few weeks of blogging, and secondly because I’ve been away. In Amsterdam. And when one is in AMsterdam, one doesn’t bother with reality, and nuisances like internet!
We didn’t take many photos, we tend not to in Amsterdam. Which is a shame, because it’s a great place, and without photos the memories (not to mention the blog) is not so great! But I have a few highlights I’d like to mention:
Highlight 1: The Hotel Schipp
This was an amazing experience! Like I said, no photos, but you can check out the link www.hotels.nl/amsterdam/
denieuweliefde/ , and here is the photo from the website:

The cabin were surprisingly big for a boat, and the ensuite bathroom was fantastic. The beds were comfy, and the duvets soft and warm. The boat was heeling, so e kept ending up in a lump against the hull, but no matter, we were feeling all romantic and chilled (on account of it being Amsterdam).
Highlight 2: Van Marken Island
We stayed on an island which was about 40 minutes on the express bus from the back of Amsterdam Central. It was a traditional seafaring island, which chose to retain it’s culture. We were there after the weekend, and it was a local holiday so the hotel owner went away and left us to our own devices. The local schoolteacher (who fed us breakfast, on account of everyone being on holiday) gave us a lovely insight to the character of the island… Normal people who simply love the traditional feel of Marken, and they choose to retain it’s character by keeping the appearance up. Another amazing place.
