After a very rough start to our India leg yesterday, Marc woke up in a much better mood today after a good 12 hour sleep. We had a chat and decided it’s probably better if we move to the proper marina at Cochin in Kerala for when he leaves to Kuwait next week, since he’s gonna be gone at least three weeks this time to allow for one of our divers to leave Kuwait for a visa run. At the end of the day, things on this boat have a habit of breaking down whenever Marc leaves, and a month is a long time for everything to go wrong!
Anyway, having woken in a much better mood, and made pancakes all around (with brown flour, since the white is beyond hope… I don’t mind seiving out weevils, but the weevil larvae just can’t be caught, and I can’t bring myself to eat maggots), we had a phone call from our local agent saying we had the permission to move into the river and anchor by the local casino, which isn’t a cruise ship after all! It’s a little noisy with its generator running but at least we’re out of the swell now.
The rest of the anchorage is lovely, lined with trees and colourful fishing shacks. With them come the fishermen in their little long boats with 2hp Yamaha outboards, which they don’t use while fishing. Rather, they use paddles which I think they get from retired lollipop ladies. I must try and remember to take a photo of them tomorrow. Here also it seems that we are a fascination for the locals!
Kiera and Sultan have gone into town now (which must be a traffic nightmare, judging by the non stop horns) with orders to bring back some off those gorgeous potato balls. I’m a bit annoyed I forgot to ask them to bring white flour.
